WHAT IS THE MUTCD?

The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) is a document that provides guidance for the design and placement of traffic control devices, including traffic cones. The MUTCD specifies that traffic cones should be a minimum of 18 inches in height, although taller cones may be used in certain situations.
